Make Your Getaway // Foundations For Your Next Trip

Published by Liz A. on Apr 27th 2021

No one will argue that the past 12 months have been...well... tedious at times...And even the most content among us have longed for a change of scenery.

And now some of us are emerging from our Covid caves and preparing for a long-awaited adventure in the sand and sun. (Or at least a brief break from our living room and Netflix account.)

So, let’s dig out our roller bag from the basement and hit-up the closet.

The first thing we want to keep in mind while packing is streamlining our wardrobe, i.e. keeping it simple and connected. Local stylist Joanne Smith had the right idea last week when she mindfully, and effortlessly, packed for her warm-weather getaway. (see video)

Complementary colors are the foundation. Whether it’s black and white, navy and cream, or grey and tan, your easiest option is to limit your travel collection to a few colors that work well together. (Check out Joanne’s black and white travel capsule) You can always throw a few pops of color into the mix to make it fun and more personal! Think cherry-red Longchamp crossbody or gold-sequin Golden Goose middies...

Be a lightweight...Resist the urge to squeeze in that fluffy knit sweater that fills half of your suitcase, and make sure to wear (on the airplane) the most cumbersome piece of clothing you are taking with you. Each piece you pack should work its way into at least two outfits; each item must earn its keep on this trip! For instance, the blazer you sported on the plane with your relaxed denim can also be tossed over your slip-dress in the evening when you are heading out for cocktail hour. (One blazer, two wears.)

In closing, pack what you feel good in! And when in doubt, put on a great pair of sunglasses and smile. You’ve got this.

Just grab your Tom Ford’s and meet me at the airport.
